FEBRUARY 2011 - BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS. THE PITFALLS OF LIFE – AND HOW TO AVOID THEM!

Rob Coates

February saw another fantastic meeting when members and visitors found out how to avoid the pitfalls of life and how to apply that to our businesses

Personal Development coach and hypnotherapist Rob McPhun was our guest speaker. Before setting up his company, Believe & Achieve, Rob served with Humberside Police for 34 years. He had a number of operational roles throughout the East Riding, including Local Policing commander at Pocklington. In the later stages of his career there, he became the Learning and Development manager for the Force. After working as an Executive Coach for two years he formed his own business exactly a year ago. He also trained and qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist in May last year and is an NLP practitioner.

Using his vast experience and training, Rob talked to the group about individual and personal goals and why it's important to have them. He also explained the pitfalls and how to set about a proper plan of action.

Rob McPhun said:

"We all start the year with good intentions, but here we are at the beginning of February, and you can imagine how many people have given up. But why have they stopped? It's all about setting realistic goals and having someone to guide and support you in your journey for success."

Rob, who uses a combination of techniques including coaching, training, cognitive behavioural therapy, NLP and hypnotherapy, continued:

"One of the main barriers to achieving our full potential is our own map of the world and where we see ourselves in it. You need to redraw that map the way you want it to be!"

MARCH 2011 - WHAT MAKES A GREAT ENTREPRENEUR?

Rob Coates

Are entrepreneurs born or are they made? This is what members and visitors discussed at ERBN's meeting on Tuesday, March1st.

In this fantastic session, we heard from Rob Coates, a specialist in HR and People Development. Known as a highly engaging speaker, he certainly lived up to his name! Rob takes time to investigate and understand issues that business people face every day.

He said:

"It's really interesting to get people to look at their own personality, what makes them successful and what they can improve on to achieve exactly what they want to achieve."

After considering what attributes we thought an entrepreneur should have, we all filled in a very quick and easy questionnaire, known as the Myers Briggs Temperament Sorter. After adding up our scores, we found out what "type" of personality we had. It proved both enjoyable and, in some cases, rather surprising, which provoked some very lively discussion to the evening! It also turns out that it's impossible to pigeon hole an entrepreneur into any one category.

Rob, who says he prides himself on never over complicating problems or solutions, continued:

"By reviewing your own personality you'll identify what you like doing, which helps you build your business. You'll also find out what you need to get better to make your business grow and achieve the goals you have set yourself."
